In The Know WORKSHOP

Suicide Awareness and Prevention | Now booking!

Recent Canadian research confirms that 1 in 4 farmers have had thoughts of suicide in 2021, much higher than in the general Canadian population. Farmers are believed to be at high risk for suicide because of isolated working conditions, access to means, high levels of financial risk and uncertainty, seasonality of work, and lack of access to supports.

The topic of suicide has become more common in both our personal and professional lives with the added risk factors due to COVID-19. Adults, youth, employees, rural and urban workers and their families may be struggling.

AgKnow has partnered with Abridge Consulting to create two customized suicide awareness and prevention workshops for Alberta’s agriculture industry.

These workshops can be delivered in person or virtually by trained AgKnow facilitators and will be offered on a fee-for-service basis beginning in the fall of 2023. Sign up to get on our waitlist to host an event for your community, business or association by filling out the form below. Requests will be added to a waiting list and delivered in the order received.

The workshop is conducted over eight days and includes:

  1. An introductory 1-hour live session to explain the benefits of suicide prevention in the agriculture industry, introduce key resources and set expectations.

  2. “Start” – a 90 minute online self-directed course by LivingWorks; participants have one week to complete on their own time.

  3. A 1-hour debrief session to discuss your experience, provide feedback, ask questions, review resources, and learn how to apply the learning in your professional and personal life.

This workshop can be delivered in person, virtually or as a hybrid.

Rooted in the Farm: Providing Culturally Sensitive Health Care to Agriculture Producers (Farmers)

Join us and Dr. Michelle Pavloff Network and Research Chair of Rural Health at Saskatchewan Polytechnic and founder and lead researcher for the SaskAgMatters Network, for a one hour webinar to explore her research on the unique needs and culture of farmers as they pertain to health care provision.

At AgKnow, we are working to increase the resiliency of farming communities by destigmatizing mental health and reducing barriers to services. It is our goal to create better connections between farmers their families and the health care and mental health professionals that support them.

This webinar would be most useful to health care and mental health professionals working with rural farm clients in western Canada.
